OK… so that was a little weird from a narrative standpoint but the artistic element was insane! So there have been a few digital art festivals over the past few weeks, specifically SUPERNOVA in Denver and OFFF in London. These two festivals featured some of the best digital artists around and their work is beautiful in every way. After the great experience that was SUPERNOVA I feel a little bummed that I didn’t get to attend OFFF in person; the vibe and community around these types of events is just magical, and inspirational. At SUPERNOVA the project that really stood out for me was created by Hibanana Studio. Since the festival I have checked out some of their other work online and I must say it didn’t disappoint. My favorite piece from my search was produced around 2 years ago and is titled “Her”
The animation style and the sonic accompaniment is just spot on in my opinion. Their Vimeo is definitely worth a look! Before this year I would go to art festivals here and there but after the immense feeling of inspiration I gained from seeing the works from SUPERNOVA in person, coupled with a new scholarly influenced artistic approach, I feel the need to go to every festival out there! The collection of works at the OFFF festival are just as inspiring and it’s one of my goals to attend it in the future. The skill and technique involved in all of these works makes me want to work harder to refine my skills and artistic imagination. I’d say that’s some true inspiration 🙂
Also, a little bit of a tangent here… but I just have to say that Blade Runner 2049 might be the most visually and sonically beautiful movie I have seen in a decade (Weird! I’m old enough to say that now and it kind of works). Looks like Roger Deakins did it again! I’ve included some of my favorite screen grabs that are floating around the interwebs. Also here is a wonderful article on the film’s background story from Wired.
