Oh the rabbit hole you have opened up Professor Coleman…!
While I had stumbled upon Dan Shiffman’s videos before by accident, I never looked at his channel thoroughly. I used some of the knowledge in the video to help with previous Open Processing sketches. However, now that we were properly introduced to our substitute teacher last week I’ve been just watching as much content as I can (sometimes at 2x speed) just because I don’t have time but I can’t get enough. There have been several videos that I found incredibly inspiring and useful to my “Itch to Glitch” idea as well as some other ideas for additional projects that may or may not be for school purposes. At the moment, the few videos that I have watched over and over are the following:
These two videos have been helping me to figure out the proper way to bend pixel data. I’m currently working on a project that will use live API data to fill variables that are then used in an algorithm that bends the pixel data of an original image. It isn’t coming out the way I want just yet but rest assured as soon as it’s all working I will post an update with a link to the sketches and some of the generated images I have saved. The troubles I am having are with bringing in the API data properly and loading it into the variables at the right time. I feel as though the asynchronous method is the best but it’s allowing the sketch to run before the data is loaded. Oh well, more research and practice will help with progress!
Some other videos that I have watched are below. I have yet to do anything with the content in these videos but the outcomes are just so incredibly beautiful that I can’t look away. Code can just be so mesmerizing sometimes.
Again, I think combining some API data with this terrain generator could create some very interesting outcomes! A project for another time 🙂
Data visualization is something that I have been intrigued by for a long time. Most of that intrigue was started with infographics (well designed ones) that are able to present information and data to the user in a unique and intuitive way. However, my intrigue has now been carjacked by the more generative and interactive data visualizations that can be created with code.
Also, there is one more video that you just can’t ignore…
