There have been many years where I considered myself an Apple Fanboy. Sadly, that is no longer the case. Over the past few years the product offerings have continued to disappoint more and more. The vision that was set forth by today’s predecessors seems to have been put on the back-burner as the new objectives are downright offensive. The release of the Apple iPhone X (keep in mind it is 10 not “x) is confusing as they just decided to skip nine because 2017 marks the 10 year anniversary of the original iPhone. On a sidenote I feel like all the shots of applause at the recent keynotes are fake! There is no way the true power users of these products could be appreciative of these new updates. No way!!
I think the following video hits the nail on the head with the new iPhone X
Another thing I don’t understand is the Face Detection? Is there another way to unlock your phone if you don’t want to use this option? What is Apple really going to do with all that facial data? And furthermore, why does anybody want to have that much personal data stored somewhere? More and more I find myself being critical of new technological advances (not only apple) because they are all eliminating privacy and transforming human beings into bits of data. One last quip on why Apple has been disappointing me over the past few years; soldered ram and non-dedicated graphics processing. Why?? I thought a MBP was for the “power” user. There is more “power” in a laptop you can buy at Costco for less than $1k. However, I will continue to buy their products because I do value design and there is truly nothing out there that compares to the beauty of an Apple product.
This is a rant and I still love Apple… for the time being.
